Aquarium Rovinj, Potovalni vodnik za počitnice v Rovinj, Istra
Marine Research Center was established in 1891 as a field station for the collection of organisms intended for the Berlin aquarium - Zoologische Station der Berliner Aquariums. The main reasons why is exactly Rovinj selected were extremely clean sea, the great diversity of plant and animal organisms, and good rail connections to Trieste, Berlin and other major European cities. Good rail connections facilitated the transportation of organisms to the Berlin aquarium within just two days. Shortly after the opening the Rovinj aquarium began to attract many visitors.
Even today, after almost 120 years long tradition, Rovinj aquarium as part of the Center for Marine Research, attracts many foreign and local tourists and scientists.
