he Naval cemetery, dating from 1866, is the site where 150,000 soldiers from the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy (until 1918) were buried. It is located in the direction of Stoja.
It used to be known as the Austro-Hungarian cemetery and was opened by the Ministry of the Navy in 1862. It was renovated in 1990 in conjunction with the Austrian Red Cross and Germany. There have been roughly 150,000 people buried here over the years and these include casualties of the Baron Gautsch disaster and crews from Szent Istvan and Viribus battle ships. The cemetery is a protected monument.
